Global FC pulls off comeback vs Magwe to move on cusp of advancing in AFC Cup

Apr 19, 2017

GLOBAL Cebu FC scored four crucial goals in a span of 19 minutes to take an all-important 4-2 come-from-behind victory against Magwe in their Group F tussle in the AFC Cup on Wednesday at Yangon, Myanmar.

With 12 points, Global took the Group F lead and closed in on an automatic qualification, needing a win in their final game against Boeung Ket Ankor or a loss in either of Johor Darul Ta'zim's last two matches.

A goal by Kyaw Naing Naing in the 34th minute opened the scoring for the hosts, who were looking to avenge the 1-0 loss they absorbed against Global in Manila.

But Hikaru Minegeshi's 71st-minute goal opened the floodgates for Global.

Darryl Roberts then netted a brace soon after to put the Cebu-based club ahead for good. A solo effort from Roberts in the 81st minute handed the visitors the lead before doubling his tally two minutes later off a well-placed ball by Marco Casambre.

Shu Sasaki then wrapped things up after forcing the backline to give away the ball in the 89th minute.

Naing Lin Tun scored a consolation goal for the hosts in the 94th minute but it meant nothing other than an added goal to his personal tally.

The win pushed Global on the verge of a Zonal Semifinals slot as they head home for their final group stage game against Boeung Ket Ankor on May 3 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
