KAYA pounced on a coach-less Philippine Air Force in the second half, scoring a 4-0 victory in a highly physical affair on Thursday night to continue its climb back to the elite of the United Football League at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig.
After Air Force coach Edzel Bracamonte was ejected late in the first half for airing his frustration over the officiating, Kaya pulled away in the second half to move past Nomads into fourth place.
The Airmen stayed at the bottom of the standings, still winless after eight games.
“It was an interesting game how the ninety minutes panned out,” Kaya coach David Perkovic said. “We didn’t get caught up in the external factors of the game as much in the second half.”
Christian Ayew fired a brace, while OJ Porteria and, Anton del Rosario added a goal apiece for the 2012 League runners-up, who scored their largest margin of the season.
“It’s a big win,” Porteria said. “Every game is important for us right now because we didn’t start off so well.”
After Porteria opened the scoring seven minutes into the game, Kaya turned it up a notch in the second half with Ayew striking twice in a span of 10 minutes starting in the 46th and Del Rosario capping the blowout with a goal a minute before stoppage time.
“I was pleased with the final outcome,” the Australian mentor added. “The boys grew and evolved from the first half to the second half.”
