Floyd Mayweather Sr. says Roach, like Pacquiao, will 'sit his ass down' in May 2 super fight

    Mar 19, 2015

LEAVE it to trainers Freddie Roach and Floyd Mayweather Sr. to do the talking leading up to the May 2 super title fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

The elder Mayweather hit back at Roach after his credentials as a boxing coach were ridiculed by the seven-time Trainer of the Year, who said Floyd Sr.'s brother, former world champion Roger Mayweather, is the better trainer between the two.

“He can say all that he wants to say. You want me to tell you what Freddie wants? He wants Roger in there because he knows I’m the man,” said Floyd Sr.

Verbal sparring is nothing new to both Roach and Floyd Sr.

The two had been into it since 2007 when Mayweather Jr. and Oscar De La Hoya fought for the world super-welterweight title. Floyd Sr. handled the corner of his son, while Roach served as the Golden Boy’s trainer, with the young Mayweather eking out a split decision in one of the richest fights ever in boxing history.

They crossed paths once more two years later during Pacquiao’s welterweight showdown with Ricky Hatton, who Floyd Sr. trained. The Englishman was destroyed by the Pacman in just two rounds.

Now they’re at it again, with Floyd Sr. saying both Pacquiao and Roach will get a severe beating from his unbeaten son two months from now before an expected record crowd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

“I’m going to tell you right now, Manny’s going to get his ass kicked, and Freddie’s going to go and sit his ass down,” said Floyd Sr., who often refers to Pacquiao’s longtime trainer as ‘cockroach.’

Floyd Sr. also said Pacquiao’s vicious sixth-round knockout at the hands of Mexican rival Juan Manuel Marquez makes the Filipino boxing icon at risk of suffering the same fate at the hands of his champion son.

“Anytime somebody’s been knocked ice cold like that, of course, they can get knocked out again – quick, fast, and in a hurry,” he said.
