THE Philippines goes for a landmark achievement in Southeast Asian football as it battles with Thailand for the 2022 AFF Women’s Championship on Sunday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.

In what has already been a bright year for the team, the Filipinas go for another milestone to add to semifinal appearances in the AFC Asian Cup and the Southeast Asian Games this year.

Gaining a place in the 2023 Fifa Women’s World Cup during the Asian Cup and bagging a bronze in the SEA Games, the PWNT now seeks its first title in their 7:30 p.m. encounter with Thailand.

“It shows that we’ve come a long way but I’m greedy and hungry for more,” said head coach Alen Stajcic after a 4-0 semifinal victory over Vietnam.

A sellout crowd is expected to be on hand, a boost for the Filipinas’ title bid. The attendance for Sunday’s match will most likely exceed the 3,233 that attended the semifinal against Vietnam.

Sarina BoldenFocus is expected to be on Sarina Bolden.

The Philippines will look to avenge its 1-0 loss to Thailand in the group stage, the only defeat the team has suffered in the tournament. The goal came on a defensive miscue with Kanyanat Chetthabutr scoring the header in the 74th minute in their encounter last Tuesday.

Thailand has been playing solid as well in the tournament. The four-time AFF champions topped Group A with 13 points including a 2-2 draw to Australia, and defeated Myanmar, 2-0, in the semifinals.

Unlike in the semifinals, Sarina Bolden is expected to start in front for the Philippines. The Filipina striker is the leading goal scorer in the tournament with seven including two during the victory over Vietnam last Friday.
