NEW Zealand Prime Minister Chris Hipkins said there is no threat to national security even as a gunman killed two people at a construction site in downtown Auckland ahead of the Women’s World Cup kickoff.

The gunman was killed by police at the area near hotels where the Philippines, Norway and other teams are staying.

Norway faces New Zealand on Thursday at Eden Park in Auckland.

The Philippines plays its opening match against Switzerland on Friday at Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin, south of Auckland.

    "All members of the Philippine Women's National Team delegation at the FIFA Women's World Cup are safe," the Philippine team said on social media.
