FILIPINAS coach Mark Torcaso has outlined the team’s preparations for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027, which includes participation in the 20th Asian Games, training camps, and matches during the international window.
Torcaso is leaving no stones unturned in the Filipinas’ build-up for the most prestigious competition in women’s football outside the Olympics after his preferred calendar of activities were approved by the Philippine Football Federation (PFF).
The Filipinas are scheduled to see action in the Asiad, as well as in each of the FIFA international windows with stops in South America in the October window, Asia-Oceania region later in the year, the Pinatar Cup in Spain in February 2027, and the home-and-away Olympic Qualifying Tournament in April 2027.
The preparations wind down with a four to six-week training camp in Brazil where the FIFA Women’s World Cup will be staged from June 24 to July 25.
Torcaso said the preparation has already started with a training camp in San Diego and matches against the San Diego Wave of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and youth club Albion SC San Diego recently.
The Australian coach is also in Manila for the PFF Women’s League to observe the homegrown talents.
“Every camp and every opportunity we've got is strategically organized in a way so we're going to be ready for this World Cup,” Torcaso said in a statement.
"This is our opportunity to go again, and we just want to show the world that we're going to do this again and, more importantly, we're going to do it our way. We're here to create our own path and chance to do well in this next World Cup,” he added.
The Filipinas are slated to compete in their second Women’s World Cup following a historic qualification for the 2023 event where the Nationals defeated New Zealand, 1-0, in Wellington through a goal by Sarina Bolden.
The Philippines made it back to the World Cup after beating Uzbekistan, 2-0, in an inter-confederation playoff during the 2026 AFC Women’s Asia Cup last March in Gold Coast, Australia.
The PFF leadership expressed its full support of Torcaso’s plans and programs for the build-up to the FIFA Women’s World Cup next year.
“Coach Torcaso's preparation framework reflects a deliberate, intensive approach which tge PFF believes is essential to competing at the highest level," PFF president John Gutierrez said in a statement. “We are fully committed to giving him and the Filipinas every resource they need to be ready when the World Cup begins in Brazil."
With the Asian Games to be held in Nagoya, Japan from September 19 to October 4 not part of the FIFA international window, Torcaso could be giving other players without club obligations opportunities for the quadrennial multisport competition.
"The main objective in this Asian Games is obviously to go as far as we can, but it's also for us as coaches and the country to test some players at a tough level to see if they'll be ready for the World Cup."
