FOR the Filipinas, second-guessing their Philippine heritage is pointless.
“It’s literally in our blood,” Quinley Quezada told SPIN.ph during the ‘Herstory Continues’ Homecoming event at the adidas Brand Center in Glorietta on Thursday.
Quezada along with 12 other members of the Philippine women’s national football team (PWNFT) met mediamen and Pinoy fans a day after arriving from a history-making World Cup campaign in New Zealand.
Amid the celebration over a 1-0 win over the Football Ferns were questions on the composition of a team of predominantly Fil-foreign players.
What's all the fuzz?
“Honestly, they shouldn’t question our Pinoy heritage,” the Filipinas forward, who was born to a Filipino mom and Mexican dad, said.
She continued: “Just because we’re not living in the Philippines, that takes away us having a Filipino heart, Filipino roots, and Filipino culture in us.”
Born and raised in the California, the 26-year-old Quezada said she grew up in a Filipino community.
“Even if we aren’t in the Philippines, Filipinos are everywhere. So many Filipino communities around the world, every single one is very warm and welcoming,” she shared.
Quezada continued: “It’s disappointing to see those [questioning our heritage], because we pride ourselves in being Filipinos, so that’s just not right.”
