THE Philippine men’s football team lost to Iraq, 1-0, on Thursday in the joint Fifa World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers in Basrah, Iraq.
PMNT threw away a possible point against the Group F leaders when Mohanad Ali scored in the 84th minute over Neil Etheridge.
Iraq secured the full three points to remain in first place in the group with nine points, while the Philippines is now in the bubble to advance into the World Cup qualifiers being at the bottom with only one point following its second defeat.
The Philippine team returns in Manila for a rematch against Iraq on Tuesday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
