Philippine Azkals fall short vs Syria in Dubai World Cup qualifier

THE Philippine Azkals were nipped by Syria, 1-0, on Tuesday night in the Fifa World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 qualifiers in Dubai.

The lone goal of the match came from Ward Salama in the 23rd minute as Syria remained in first place in Group A with 15 points, now eight points clear of second placer China.

The Azkals, who lost to Syria in their opening match of the qualifiers, 5-2, in Bacolod City, are in third place with seven points in Group A.

    Only the top teams in each of the eight groups along with the best four runners-up will move to the third round of the World Cup and AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.
