THE Philippine national football team drew with Oman, 1-1, in a friendly on Saturday night at the Al Gharafa Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar.
Raed Saleh scored for Oman in the ninth minute but the Azkals equalized as Javier Patiño’s header in the 38th minute deflected off defender Khalid Khalifa Al Hajri into goal.
It was the first match between the Philippines and Oman since May 2001 in the qualifiers for the 2002 World Cup Korea-Japan. The Filipinos lost lost both matches 0-2 and 0-7.
The Philippines is 114th in Fifa rankings, while Oman is At No. 85.
The Azkals are preparing for the AFF Championship this year and AFC Asian Cup UAE next year.
The Filipino Booters will host Singapore on November 13 and Thailand on November 21 at Pana-ad and will play road matches against Timor Leste (Nov. 17) at the Kuala Lumpur Stadium in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and against Indonesia (Nov. 25) at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Senayan, Jakarta, Indonesia.
