THE Philippines beat Maldives, 2-1, in the Asian qualifiers for the Fifa World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 on Thursday at the National Stadium in Male, Maldives.
The Azkals gained three points in order to stay in third place in Group A with seven points, behind a China squad that took second place due to superior goal difference.
Iain Ramsay scored the first goal in the 52nd, followed by John Patrick Strauss in the 68th. Goal keeper Neil Etheridge nearly had a clean sheet if not for a late goal by Haisham Hassan in the 90th.
The Azkals will play Syria at a neutral site in Dubai on November 19. Syria leads Group A with nine points.
