AUCKLAND, New Zealand – Olivia McDaniel wants to be back in the next Fifa Women’s World Cup, hoping that the things that the Filipinas experienced here will translate into better performances for the group in the coming years.

The Filipinas goalkeeper said the World Cup was definitely an experience she will cherish forever. This early, McDaniel said she hopes that they can return as a better unit in 2027.

McDaniel admitted she was also upset with the result where she conceded five goals in the Philippines’ 6-0 defeat against Norway, ranked No. 12 in the world. But in the end, McDaniel said the experience will make her a better player.

“There’s definitely been a lot of emotions going on right now. We are very upset. We really desperately want to get out of the group. That was our goal,” said McDaniel.

“But some things change. Some things doesn’t happen. But we are still proud of this entire group. We got our first win in our very first World Cup. Our dream may have ended here but we still have much more to look forward to. A couple more tournaments this year to look forward to. Hopefully, in the next four years, we will be back,” said McDaniel.

The next tournaments for the Filipinas will be the Asian Games in Hangzhou that will start in September, and the second round of the 2024 Paris Olympics qualifying tournament for Asia that will begin in late October.

McDaniel is also setting her sights on another World Cup, determined to once again be pitted against the world’s best.

“I wish I can do it all over again. It’s been one of the best experiences of my entire life. I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I’m so blessed to be here. We are surrounded by such amazing athletes. These are the best of the best in the world. I can only just learn from that and grow myself as a player. Other people don’t have this opportunity. We are so privileged and lucky and blessed,” said McDaniel.

McDaniel, who was named the player of the match during the Filipinas’ historic win over New Zealand last Tuesday, said the Women's World Cup experience is definitely an eye opener that she could use in future tournaments, the world tournament included if she makes it there again.

“I have just learned how different the game is when you are playing against such incredible athletes. Thinking about the turnaround times, it’s so quick. Three, four days in between and then you are going again. So much to learn from. The emotion of all. The emotional highs and lows. You are winning. You are losing. You are tied. You don’t know what’s going to happen. It’s an emotional roller coaster that we have to learn and get a hold off. But it’s been a journey and I’m so thankful about it,” said McDaniel.
