COMING off their historic campaign in the 2023 Fifa Women’s World Cup, the Filipinas got the opportunity to thank their fans in the Philippines during a meet-and-greet event on Thursday in Makati City.

Several fans trooped to the adidas store in Glorietta to see the Filipinas after they captivated the nation with a performance highlighted by a victory over co-host New Zealand in only their second match of the World Cup.

“We would want to just give our absolute thanks to all the Filipinos who showed up during the World Cup,” said Filipinas goalkeeper Olivia McDaniel, the Player of the Match during the landmark win over New Zealand.

“We couldn’t have done it without the support. All three games, it seemed like we were on home soil at Rizal. It was just so incredible to have that support. We just want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Philippines defender Jessika Cowart also paid tribute to Filipinos from all over the world who she said lifted the team's spirits particularly at historic Eden Park in their final group-stage match in Auckland against Norway.

“It’s been an incredible experience signing the national anthem with everyone at the stadium. Each game felt like a home game especially the last game. Like 90 percent of the people, there were our fans.

"It’s kinda unheard off when you are on that big stage. I just want to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We couldn’t have done it without you,” said Cowart.

Also present in the meet-and-greet event were Sara Eggesvik, Katrina Guillou, Quinley Quezada, Meryll Serrano, Ryley Bugay, Kaiya Jota, Sofia Harrison, Alicia Barker, Chandler McDaniel, and reserve Bella Pasion.

McDaniel hopes the future generation will be inspired by their accomplishment in New Zealand.

“That’s something that we built on. Even though it’s the adidas mantra, impossible is truly nothing at this point. We’ve been through so much. We’ve pushed so many boundaries. If you keep dreaming, you can do it.

"Please dare to dream. We want the future generation to build off this and be able to know that they can do this. That’s been our goal besides preparing for the World Cup,” said McDaniel.
