GERRIT Holtmann is in line for a comeback with the Philippine Azkals after being invited to take part in their training camp in September that will also see the national squad play two friendlies.
Azkals' 23-man pool for World Cup qualifiers buildup
Holtmann is among the 23 players that were invited to participate in the international window which is also part of the Azkals’ preparation for qualification matches for the 2026 Fifa World Cup.
The Azkals will also go up against Chinese Taipei on September 8 in Kaohsiung, and on September 12 against Afghanistan at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Also called up are Neil Etheridge, Patrick Deyto, Kevin Ray Mendoza, Jesse Curran, Daisuke Sato, Michael Kempter, John Patrick Strauss, Kevin Ingreso, Dylan De Bruyker, Santiago Rublico, Christian Rontini, OJ Porteria, Manuel Ott, Mike Ott, Sandro Reyes, Amani Aguinaldo, Patrick Reichelt, Bienvenido Maranon, Jens Rasmussen, Carli De Murga, Joshua Grommen, Enrique Linares, and Oskari Kekkonen.
Holtmann could be making his return to the Azkals after making his seniors debut with the Philippines during the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers last June 2022. His first goal with the Azkals was a memorable one, scoring during injury time to beat Mongolia, 1-0.
The Filipino midfielder with German descent played for VfL Bochum in the Bundesliga but is now on loan with Turkish side Antalyaspor Kulubu.
