THE Philippine women’s football team thanked Sweden and the US for the unofficial friendly matches during their preparation for the Fifa Women’s World Cup.
The Filipinas finally revealed details and photos of their tune-up match against Sweden and the US at the close of the Fifa Women’s World Cup on Sunday with Spain beating England for the title.
While the match against Sweden was reported by the Swedish Football Association, the Filipinas’ unofficial friendly against USWNT was kept under wraps and was only publicly learned about during the Fifa Women’s World Cup proper.
Sweden finished third in the Women’s World Cup after beating Australia, 2-0. In their road to the bronze, Sweden, ranked No. 3 in the world, ousted No. 1 US in a dramatic penalty shootout in the round-of-16.

“We thank US Soccer and the Swedish Football Association for the opportunity to play against the top teams in the world and thank all athletes at the Fifa Women’s World Cup for inspiring and challenging footballers everywhere to be better,” said PWNT.
Angela Beard scored the lone goal of the Philippines in its loss to Sweden, 5-1, last July 17 in Upper Hutt, New Zealand in a 90-minute training match.
Three days before the Sweden tune-up, the Philippines lost to US, 3-0, in a 70-minute training match in Auckland.
Among the photos posted on PWNT’s Facebook page were the group picture of USWNT and PWNT players that included USA top striker Alex Morgan after their training match and Filipinas midfielder Ryley Bugay battling with Sweden team captain Kosovare Asllani, who scored the final goal of her team during the 2-0 win over Australia to win the bronze in the World Cup.
