CARLES Cuadrat has been appointed as the permanent head coach of the Philippines senior men’s national football team.
The Spanish tactician was initially appointed on an interim basis following the resignation of Albert Capellas, and called the shots in the Philippines’ match against Tajikistan in the AFC Asian Cup qualifiers last June which ended in a 2-2 draw.

But Cuadrat, whose resume included a stint with the East Bengal FC team that won the 2024 Indian Super Cup, has now taken the post on a fulltime basis.
Meanwhile, National Capital Region Football Association president Miguel Gutierrez has also been appointed team manager of the men’s team, replacing Freddy Gonzalez.
Gonzalez's other position as national team director remains vacant.

“His deep tactical understanding, coupled with a history of building winning teams and developing players, perfectly aligns with our vision for the future,” said Philippine Football Federation president John Gutierrez. “We saw a glimpse of his immediate impact during the Tajikistan match, demonstrating his ability to inspire and adapt under pressure.”
“We are confident that under his guidance, our national team will achieve new milestones and ignite even greater passion for football across the country,” he added.
Cuadrat also had stints with Bengaluru FC in the Indian Super League from 2018 to 2021, leading the club to the Indian Super League title in 2019 and Indian Super Cup in 2018.
On the appointment of the new team manager, Gutierrez said: “PFF is confident that with his experience and expertise in football and business management, he will be able to bring our men’s team towards the direction we’ve set out to do from the very beginning – which is to build on the gains of the team and keep on advancing in the international stage.”
