THE Philippine Azkals suffered a 3-2 setback against Cambodia at the start of their 2022 AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup campaign on Tuesday at Morodok Techo National Stadium in Phnom Penh.
Reung Bunheing scored a brace including the go-ahead goal in the 59th minute after the Azkals were able to equalize on two goals by Kenshiro Daniels in the 41st and 55th.
The Azkals have never lost to Cambodia since the 2002 Tiger Cup, the former name of this AFF tournament, 1-0.
Cambodia took a 2-0 lead in the 16th on goals by Bunheing and Orn Chanpolin in the 20th. The Azkals had a couple of chances in injury time but the Cambodians stood their ground each time.
The Philippines looks to bounce back at home in its next outing against Brunei Darussalam on Friday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
