PHILIPPINE national football team coach Scott Cooper said it was a good decision on the part of Jarvey Gayoso’s to play in the Thailand pro league.
Gayoso is scheduled to leave Manila next week to sign a deal with Muangthong United, one of the top clubs in Thailand, having won four crowns in its first division league called T1.
Cooper said Gayoso will be suiting up for Muangthong United as a midfielder which will only enhance the play of the former Ateneo striker, who won two UAAP MVPs.
“I think it’s a great step up for him to go to the Thai League,” said Cooper, who has connections with Muangthong United being the club’s former head coach. “He’s being picked up as a midfielder which was where he ended up in his stint at ADT. I think we finally found the right position for him.”
“It’s really a good challenge for him because he has to step up a few levels,” said Cooper, who also oversees the Azkals Development Team that is being groomed to become the next members of the senior national team.
The 23-year-old Gayoso played for the ADT in the 2020 Philippines Football League where he scored four goals by playing in different positions aside from being a striker.
“It’s not over the line yet, but it’s close and it’s an excellent move for him,” said Cooper.
Gayoso will be joined in the squad by Azkals defender Daisuke Sato for the remainder of the T1 2020-2021 season.
