FERNANDO Rodriguez became the second Ceres Negros player to net a hat trick in the Philippines Football League as he powered his squad to a dominant 5-1 victory over Stallion Laguna on Wednesday at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
The goals came pouring like the heavy downpour in Negros as the powerhouse squad remained unscathed at home to improve to 10 points after five games.
Bienve Maranon also continued his scoring spree in the league, firing in two quick goals in the first half, just three days removed after getting a hat trick in their 3-1 win over Kaya.
Maranon scored in the 18th and 37th minute to neutralize Jess Melliza's equalizer for Stallion in the 27th minute.
That's when Rodriguez took the reins from his fellow Spaniard as he started to make his presence felt in the 44th minute after pouncing on a free ball to give the Busmen a 3-1 lead at the half.
But Rodriguez was far from done as he scored two more goals at the second half, firing from long range in the 57th minute before pouncing on a cross from Martin Steuble in the 84th minute.
With the loss, Stallion remained winless after seven games with three points.
Global Cebu also got back to track after dropping the Davao Aguilas in Tagum, 2-1.
An own goal from the Aguilas gave Global its breakthrough before Sekou Sylla gave the Cebuanos a two goal lead.
Richard Talaroc scored a consolation goal for Davao but that proved to be for naught as a win also remained elusive for the newcomers.
Global is now at 13 points after seven games while Davao has four points after eight games.
