FAMILIAR names banner the Philippines men’s football team as it begins its buildup for the Asean Football Federation Suzuki Cup with a friendly against Turkmenistan next week.
Misagh Bahadoran, Stephan Schrock, and Phil and James Younghusband lead the 22 players Azkals coach Thomas Dooley has called up for the friendly on September 2, Friday, at the Philippine Sports Stadium.
Neil Etheridge, Roland Muller, Javier Patiño, Iain Ramsay, Luke Woodland, and the recent Romania transferee Daisuke Sato are the overseas-based standouts boosting the squad that also sees the first call-up for Kaya FC defender Junior Muñoz.
The Azkals then fly to Kyrgyzstan to face the country’s national team on September 6 in the first of a pair of exhibition matches, the second on home soil three days later at the Philippine Sports Stadium, which will also serve as host to the Suzuki Cup group stage.
The Filipino booters open their Suzuki Cup campaign on November 19 against Singapore, before facing Indonesia three days later, and defending champion Thailand on November 25.
