THREE former Azkals will fly the Philippine flag in the Asia qualifiers of the Fifa World Beach Football Cup slated in Doha, Qatar from January 20-27.
Roel Gener, Nestorio Margarse, and Joshua Beloya will banner the Philippine team that hopes to finish in the top three to secure a place in the World Cup set in Tahiti on September 18-28.
Beach Football Association of the Philippines president Mike Athab will lead the side, which is bracketed in Group D with Iran, Iraq and China.
“This is our most competitive lineup ever assembled,” said Athab.
Also in the 10-man roster are Wilson dela Cruz, Ronel Gener, , Jason Joker Arroyo, Edmundo Mercado, Sean Hungerford, Oliver Andrea Potschke, and Kale Alvarez.
The Philippines is looking to make it to the 'beach soccer' World Cup after falling short in the 2006 and 2008 editions of the Asian qualifyings.
Russia is the defending World Beach Football Cup champion.
