BIRMINGHAM City FC suffered its first defeat of the 2020 English Football League Championship, losing to Sheffield Wednesday, 1-0, at the St. Andrew’s Trillion Trophy Stadium.
Owls midfielder Barry Bannan slotted the only goal of the match in the 49th minute, a shot to the far corner that Filipino-British goalkeeper Neil Etheridge was unable to stop.
The Blues are in 15th place in the table with six points following a win and three draws.
A foul by BCFC’s Adam Clayton on Callum Paterson inside the box led to the penalty.
“I don't know, but I really don't want to complain,” said BCFC manager Aitor Karanka. “But what I want to know is why we are making those mistakes and sort it out as soon as possible.”
The Blues take on Norwich City next week.
