NEIL Etheridge looks set to play for the Philippines in the Asean Football Federation Suzuki Cup after being allowed by his current club in England to take a leave.
The Bristol Rovers announced on Twitter, @Official_BRFC, early Wednesday morning that Etheridge would skip two games as he plays for the Azkals.
“Rovers will miss keeper Neil Etheridge for two games after tonight, as he goes to play for the Philippenes #BristolRovers,” the tweet read.
The tournament kicks off Saturday in Bangkok, but it is unconfirmed when Etheridge would join the Azkals, who arrived in Thailand on Tuesday.
Etheridge’s availability comes a few days after substitute ’keeper Ed Sacapaño’s scintillating showing in the Azkals’ 1-0 win over Singapore in a friendly in Cebu.
Etheridge was earlier deemed unable to play after English city newspaper Bristol Post reported that the 22-year-old Filipino-British player chose to play for the Rovers, the fourth-tier team where he is on loan from Premiere League squad Fulham.
