TAGUM, Davao del Norte — Hometown hero Eric Giganto returns to the Davao del Norte Sports Complex looking to spoil the new look home team as his Kaya Iloilo tangles with the revamped Davao Aguilas side on Sunday afternoon.
Giganto, who scored a goal in his first game here last year, look to replicate the same magic as he plays in front of friends and family while raining down on the home squad’s parade.
“Dito ako lumaki. From the last games, we gained supporters when it comes to fans. Yung excitement namin as a player, yung suporta ng mga tao dito iba,” said Giganto.
“For me as a player, iba yun. Andito kami para maabigyan ng magandang game yung mga taong manonood,” he added.
While the expectations are certainly high on Davao, Kaya will still come in as a dangerous squad after reaching the semifinals last season where it bowed to eventual champion Ceres Negros FC.
Kaya still has Jordan Mintah and Robert Lopez Mendy while Kenshiro Daniels, Jovin Bedic and Masanari Omura are still on board to hold the middle and the defense, respectively.
“The team is intact from last year. I think that’s one thing that we have an advantage over Davao,” said Kaya head coach Noel Marcaida.
“It’s not easy to have chemistry in a span of two three months. It’s going to be an interesting game for tomorrow,” he added.
Marcaida said he is just hoping to see the best from his players.
“It’s a new season. A new challenge and a new league format. Each players’ performance is vital. Every point counts.”
