GLOBAL crushed Socceroo, 11-0, on Sunday night in the most lopsided match so far in the United Football League Cup that became a glowing testimony to the club’s arsenal and depth.
The reigning League champion didn’t seem to miss the nine national team players that skipped the game as it toyed with the opposition all game long at the Nomads Sports Club in Parañaque.
Marwin Angeles, Misagh Bahadoran, Jeffrey Christiaens, Juani Guirado, Carli de Murga, Demit Omphroy, Patrick Reichelt, Matt Uy, and Denis Wolf are currently with the Philippine Azkals in the Middle East for a 10-day training camp.
The win tied the powerhouse team with Group A darkhorse General Trias with seven points overall, but Global took the lead from the Korean-laden squad owing to a superior goal difference.
Izzo El-Habbib, Alex Obiang, Fidelis Nnabuife, Jerry Barbaso, and Romeu Rodrigues provided the goals for Global.
El-Habbib, the sensational Sudanese striker, registered a hat-trick in the first half alone, while Obiang scored a brace and Rodrigues added another goal to give Global an insurmountable 6-0 lead in the first 45 minutes.
After El-Habbib scored anew six minutes into the second half, Socceroo replaced its goalkeeper to no avail as the scoring frenzy continued with Barbaso and Nnabuife joining the fray.
