    In-form Dutch issue stern warning to Euro rivals

    The Netherlands showed its preparedness with a rout of Northern Ireland, England scored a morale-boosting win over Belgium, and Turkey added to Portugal’s woes in friendlies on the final weekend before Euro 2012.

    Robin van Persie and Ibrahim Afellay had two goals apiece as Oranje clobbered the Northern Irish, 6-0, on Saturday at the Amsterdam Arena.

    Wesley Sneijder scored on a solo effort and  Ron Vlaar delivered the final dagger .

    The Netherlands open its Euro campaign against Denmark on June 9.

    Turkey kept Portugal winless in 2012, pulling off a 3-1 stunner at the Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica.

    Umut Bulut put Turkey two goals ahead before Nani cut the deficit.  

    Emre Belözolu fouled Miguel Lopes, giving Portugal a chance to equalize but Cristiano Ronaldo missed his shot from the spot. Pepe’s own goal made it three for Turkey.

    Portugal faces Germany in group play on June 9.

    At Wembley Stadium, Danny Welbeck chalked up his first goal for England, the only score in a nail-biting match against Belgium.

    Welbeck dinked the ball in at 36 minutes and England held on, but it was a shaky match for the hosts against a nation that did not make it to the Euros.

    England starts Group D play against France in Donetsk.
