DORTMUND, Germany — Borussia Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel says winger Andre Schuerrle reinjured his right knee in the Champions League match against Real Madrid, in which he scored the late equalizer.
Schuerrle had missed the previous two weeks with the sprain. He came off the bench in the 58th minute and scored in the 87th to salvage a 2-2 draw.
The injury has prevented Schuerrle from being in Germany's squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against the Czech Republic and Northern Ireland.
Schuerrle says he felt pain in the knee even before scoring but had to stay in because Dortmund had no more substitutions.
