DILIMAN and Forza start their United Football League Cup campaigns as they face off on Thursday night at the University of Makati field.
The winner in the 9 p.m. match will gain the top spot in their group after Kaya and Green Archers only had a point each after settling to a 1-1 draw last Tuesday.
Every point is important as only the top two teams from each five-club group after the single-round elimination will advance to the quarterfinals.
Composed of former and present University of the Philippines varsity booters, Diliman finished second behind Pachanga in the last Division 2 league play, while Forza had a so-so season as it landed in sixth place with nine wins against 11 losses.
Both teams boast of two prolific strikers in Forza’s Isaac Agyie, the second-best scorer in Division 2 league play with 21 goals, and Diliman’s Ariel Zerrudo, who had 19 goals last season.
Group A clubs Philippine Navy and newcomer General Trias square off in the first game at 7 o’clock.
Navy, one of the three armed forces teams in the league, finished last in Division 1 last season, while General Trias is a Korean-laden team that made it to the Cup competition after faring well in qualifying.
