CHIEFFY Caligdong and Ed Sacapaño will share the stage on March 16 when they receive the Mr. Football award from the Philippine Sportswriters Association in its annual Awards Night.
But the homegrown Filipino booters are set to be enemies, at least on Saturday night, when their professional clubs battle in the United Football League at the Emperador Stadium.
Caligdong's Green Archers United aims to build on its first win of season as it takes on Sacapaño’s struggling Philippine Army at 8 p.m. in the lone Division 1 matchup of the day.
Coming off a 4-1 breakthrough victory against Philippine Air Force last week, the Archers hope for the same result when they face their second military opponent in the Troopers, who are still winless four games into the season.
The Archers’ first win in four games gained them their first three points of the tournament and catapulted them from last to seventh place in the standings.
Caligdong, who scored against his former team last time, is looking forward to an even better showing against the Troopers.
“Sa next game mas maganda pa papakita namin,” said Caligdong, who is set to receive his second straight Mr. Football award.
Meanwhile, Kaya FC has found a new head coach in David Perkovic, team owner Santi Araneta announced through his Twitter account.
The Asian Football Confederation-licensed mentor, who replaces Maor Rozen, last coached Australian team Fraser Park FC.
