SHAH ALAM, Malaysia — Ceres Negros FC suffered its first defeat in the AFC Cup 2017 on Tuesday, falling 3-0 loss at the hands of Felda United FC on Tuesday at the Shah Alam Stadium.
Muhammad Syahid scored in the sixth minute for Felda United FC and the Busmen never recovered after conceding the early goal, struggling to put together scoring chances against the home team's defense.
Muhammad Hadin converted in the 65th minute while substitute Fazrul Hazli connected from close range in the 76th after Ceres goalkeeper Roland Muller lost control of the ball following a Felda corner.
Ceres, which had a win and two draws in its first three outings, remained with five points in Group G but could lose the lead at the end of the day with a victory by either Hanoi FC or Tampines Rovers FC in their match Tuesday night in Singapore.
Felda United, which had to play its AFC Cup home matches in this bustling city about 30 kilometers from Kuala Lumpur instead of Jengka located 160 kilometers away from the Malaysian capital, took its first win of the tournament to improve to five points after four matches.
Ceres played without midfielder Manny Ott, who was suspended after accumulating two yellow cards, and the injured Kevin Ingreso.
"I think they were the better team and they scored a good goal in the beginning of the match,” said Ceres coach Risto Vidakovic.
“For us, we have to chance the plan because they scored from practically the beginning so it was very difficult.”
The Busmen had a scoreless draw with Felda in their match in Bacolod last March 15.
