BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — The father of the Argentina and Juventus star Carlos Tevez was kidnapped but released eight hours later. Lawyer Gustavo Galasso said Tuesday (Wednesday, Manila time) that Segundo Tevez was in "good shape."
Police did not immediately provide information, but Argentine TV station C5N said Tevez was set free after a payment of $400,000. Galasso did not confirm this.
Local reports said Segundo Tevez was kidnapped by unknown assailants around sunrise but offered few details.
Juventus said it gave Tevez permission to travel for “family reasons,” but reports in Italy said he was not returning to Argentina.
Tevez played for Argentina in the 2006 and 2010 World Cups. He was not picked this time despite being one of the Italian league's top players. Germany defeated Argentina 1-0 in this month's World Cup final.
