AS pandemonium broke loose, Emelio `Chieffy’ Caligdong ran the field with his trademark Airman pose, bent his knees, and then gestured like an Archer who fired an arrow with his bow.
The former Philippine Air Force booter just announced his arrival with the Green Archers United by leading the team to a semifinal berth in the Philippine Football Federation-Smart Club Championships following a 1-0 victory over Pachanga on Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
In just his second game for his new team after being honorably discharged from the Armed Forces, the national team skipper rebounded from his own miss and struck in extra time to lift the Archers to the victory.
“It’s a good result,” the pride of Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo said. “Lahat ng hard work sa training, nakita sa game.”
With Tating Pasilan also in the lineup, the Archers fielded an offensive-laden lineup, but could not convert their attempts in regulation.
Still scoreless at full time, the game went to extra period, where the 30-year-old Caligdong became extra assertive and was eventually rewarded.
The Archers will now face PSG in the semifinals.
