ATENEO regained the lead in the UAAP football tournament, thanks to a Deo Segunial own goal that gifted the Blue Booters a 2-1 victory over defending champions University of the Philippines recently at Ateneo’s Erenchun field.
Segunial’s 66th-minute miscue allowed the Blue Booters to score their sixth win and improve to 19 points, one point ahead of Far Eastern University. The Maroons have 13 points on four victories and a draw in eight matches.
Leo Liay opened the scoring for the Blue Eagles in the 27th minute for Ateneo but Gabriel Mendoza tied the match in the 32nd.
Meanwhile, brothers David and Derrico Diamante De La Salle to a 5-0 rout of University of the East.
David had goals in the 11th, 60th, 84th, and 88th, while Derrico scored in the 67th as La Salle chalked up its fifth win and took third spot with 15 points.
University of Santo Tomas clobbered National University, 4-0, to take its third win and improve its score to nine points.
Uche Ememandu scored in the 10th, Shinmar Felongco hit goals in the 30th and 71st, while Patrick O’Neill found the back of the net in the 77th.
NU has four points, while UE has one.
