NOMADS benefited from Yves Ashime’s huge blunder in the first half to score a 1-0 upset of Pachanga on Tuesday night in the United Football League Cup at the Marikina Sports Complex.
Nomads caught an early lucky break as Pachanga defender and skipper Ashime scored an own goal after miscalculating a looping safety pass to goalkeeper Enrique Ortiz 30 minutes into the match.
The reigning Division 2 champion, Pachanga pushed the tempo after the break to try and retaliate. Although the club had more chances, it came up empty handed in the end.
Nomads forward Phil Connolly admitted after the match his team was lucky enough to pull off the escape act against a topnotch opponent.
“They (Pachanga) were far superior, technically,” Connolly said in a talk with Spin.ph after the match.
But Nomads coach Michael Denison didn’t want to take anything away from the win, which improved the club’s total to six points for the solo lead in Group C.
“This is probably the biggest win in Nomads history in a long, long time,” the British mentor said.
Pachanga remained tied in second place with Loyola Meralco with three points apiece.
