Philippines' hosting of Suzuki Cup takes hit as AFF disapproves Rizal Memorial Stadium as venue
The Rizal Memorial Football Stadium can only accommodate 15,000 people, well below the required 30,000 seating capacity minimum.

THE Philippines has suffered a blow in its bid to bring the Asean Football Federation Suzuki Cup to the country as the AFF disapproved the Rizal Memorial Stadium as the primary venue for the 2016 group stage late this year.

The Philippine Football Federation confirmed the development on Wednesday in a statement signed by PFF general secretary Edwin Gastanes.

The Philippines, which won the bid to host this year’s edition of top competition in the region, will likely surrender the right after an inspection by rights holder Lagardere Sports (formerly World Sports Group).

Rizal Memorial can only accommodate 15,000 people, well below the required 30,000 seating capacity minimum.

The PFF said will appeal the decision during the AFF council meeting on March 12 in Vietnam.
