HANOI – The Philippine men’s football team emerged as the solo leader at the end of the opening day of Group A of the Asean Football Federation Suzuki Cup after host Vietnam and Indonesia fought to a 2-2 draw on Saturday at the My Dinh National Stadium.

The Azkals, who have three points to show after a 4-1 rout of Laos, only need one more win to advance to a third successive semifinal berth.

Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar, and other host Sinagapore are in Group B, fighting for the two other Final Four slots.

Vietnam gained the early lead courtesy of Que Ngoc Hai 11 minutes into the match, before Zullham Zamruan equalized for Indonesia in the 36th minute.

Le Cong Vinh put the Vietnamese up anew with a 68th minute strike, only for Samsul Arif to knot the count for good six minutes before stoppage time.
