THE Philippine men’s football team quickly recovered from an early deficit and settled for a 1-1 draw against India on Friday night in their Fifa International friendly at the Kanchenjunga Stadium in Siliguri.

Phil Younghusband struck the game-tying goal two minutes before first-half stoppage time, only moments after Azkals fell behind.

Bringing in reinforcements Stephan Schrock following a 0-4 beating at the hands of Asian heavyweight United Arab Emirates last Saturday, the Filipino booters were heavily favored against the Indians.

Instead, the hosts capitalized as Sunil Chetri converted header off a corner kick in the 42nd minute.

Younghusband nearly turned the game around in favor of the visitors in the 70th minute, but his goal was disallowed after the star striker was called for offside.

Younghusband and Schrock had two other chances in the last three minutes, but they failed to find the back of the net.

Aside from Younghusband and Schrock, Muller (goalkeeper) started along with Ray Jonsson, Rob Gier, Juani Guirado, and Jeff Christiaens (backline), James Younghusband, Chris Greatwich, and Patrick Reichelt (midfield).
