ADD another friendly for the Philippine men’s football team in March.
Already set to face Malaysia on the first day of the month, the Azkals will suit up again four days later after accepting the invitation of Azerbaijan to play in a match that’s part of their preparations for the Asian Football Federation Challenge Cup in May.
The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) confirmed the news in a statement.
“We cannot let pass the invitation of Azerbaijan. It will be a good exposure for our national team,” PFF president Mariano “Nonong” Araneta said.
Azerbaijan, ranked 94th in the world, is the highest-ranked squad the Filipino booters will take on since losing to 71st-ranked United Arab Emirates, 0-4, last November.
It will also be the first time the Azkals will face a quality European side in 17 years or since 1997 when they lost to Estonia, 0-1, in Manila.
