THE Philippine men’s football team fell in the latest Fifa rankings after falling short in its Peace Cup title defense earlier this month.
After a disappointing bridesmaid finish behind Myanmar, denying them of a third straight championship in the annual local pocket tournament, the Azkals dropped six spots to 134th in the September world rankings released on Thursday.
For their exploits, the Burmese made the biggest jump among Southeast Asian nations, climbing 17 spots to 143rd to become the third-ranked side in the region.
The Filipino booters, though, remained the top team in the Asean region, a confidence builder as they prepare for the AFF Suzuki Cup in November.
Vietnam is second in Southeast Asia with a world ranking of 142nd, while Singapore is in fourth spot (world No. 149), Malaysia rounds out the Top 5 (world No. 154).
Indonesia (156th), Thailand (158th), Laos (169th), Brunei (193rd), Timor-Leste (193rd), and Cambodia (199th) complete the Asean list.
