THE Philippine men’s football team has named on Monday the Azkals’ lineup for their rematch against Singapore in Cebu on November 15.
Emelio 'Chieffy' Caligdong will skipper the 25-man squad, which has Manila-based booters in twins Marwin and Marvin Angeles, Ian Araneta, Misagh Bahadoran, Jeff Christiaens, Jason de Jong, Roel Gener, Anto Gonzales, Juani Guirado, Nestorio 'Boogie' Margarse Jr., Carli de Murga, Demit Omphroy, Patrick Reichelt, Jason Sabio, Ed Sacapaño, Matt Uy, Denis Wolf, and brothers James and Phil Younghusband.
Foreign-based veterans Rob Gier, Chris Greatwich, Ray Jonsson will bolster the side, while young guns Joshua Beloya and Paolo Pascual also make their respective returns to national team duty.
The Azkals blanked Singapore, also known as the Lions, 2-0, in the opponents’ home turf in Singapore last September 7 in a match that ended a two-decade victory drought for the Philippines against its Southeast Asian neighbor.
But Caligdong said the 143rd-ranked Azkals still will not take their opponents lightly, even if Singapore is now ranked 20 spots below them in the latest Fifa rankings.
“Hindi pa rin namin ina-underestimate ang Lions,” the Iloilo-born team captain said.
The friendly will be the Azkals’ last tune-up match before they see action in the Asean Football Federation Suzuki Cup starting November 24 in Bangkok, Thailand.
