    Army gains solo group lead in UFL Cup

    PROVING it has plenty of juice left in its tank, Philippine Army subdued Agila, 2-0,on Saturday night in the United Football League Cup at the University of Makati pitch.

    Ricardo Becite struck for the second straight match, while John Cain also found the back of the net as the veteran club gained the solo lead in Group D with six points. Defending champion Philippine Air Force is in second place with three points.

    Army dominated possession throughout the match, but was only rewarded late in the second half when Cain drew first blood 10 minutes before full time and Becite, who scored against Stallion last Sunday, doubled the lead two minutes into injury time.

    In the final game of the day, Pasargad barged into the win column after scoring a 3-0 victory over Philippine Navy.

    Alireza Jamali and Masood Shedideh provided the goals for the club as it gained three points in Group A.

    In the day’s first game, Dolphins United and Diliman settled to a scoreless draw as both teams remained winless in Group B.

    Meanwhile, Global seeks to move closer to a quarterfinal berth as it takes on Socceroo at the Nomads pitch on Sunday.

    The tournament favorite, Global will miss the services of nine national team members in the lone 6:30 p.m. match as they are with the PH national team in the Middle East for their 10-day training camp.
