EMELIO ‘Chieffy’ Caligdong’s reunion with Philippine Air Force evoked sentimental feelings on Thursday night.
But emotions had to be set aside and the 30-year-old booter proceeded with his business of helping his new team gain a breakthrough victory in the United Football League.
Caligdong emerged as one of the goal scorers for Green Archers United, which finally barged in the UFL win column with its 4-1 thumping of the Airmen in their game at the Emperador Stadium.
“I’m not saying na dahil galing ako dun (Air Force) hindi na ako mag-score ng goals (sa kanila). Syempre nakikita ka ng maraming tao and the way you play, so pinapakita ko lang kung ano ako,” said Caligdong of his first meeting with his former team since being discharged honorably last December.
“Ilang years ko rin sila nakasama at ngayon, harapan kami sa UFL, pero trabaho lang 'to. Wala namang personalan,” added the former sergeant, who scored the team’s second goal in the emphatic victory.
Jes Melliza, Ronnie Aguisanda, and Tating Pasilan were the other three players who found the back of the net for the Archers, who kept the Airmen winless in three games.
Melliza shone immediately in his first game since the UAAP season where he was named Best Striker for Far Eastern University, as he drew first blood in the 22nd minute.
The FEU Tamaraw standout then assisted on Caligdong’s successful header attempt three minutes later.
Ancing Gustilo made things interesting as he registered a goal in the 34th minute for the Airmen with left-footed missile from about 30 yards that entered the top-left corner of the goal post.
The Archers, though, turned it up a notch in the second half as substitute Aguisanda scored just five minutes after intermission, before Pasilan capped the scoring exploits with a relatively easy goal in the 63rd minute off a Jovanie Simpron pass.
