AMANI Aguinaldo entered the game seeking vengeance after receiving a beating in Johor three weeks ago.
He got that and more as he scored a rare goal off the counter in Global Cebu FC's 3-2 win over Johor Darul Ta'zim in the AFC Cup on Wednesday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Getting a confidence boost after goals from Dennis Villanueva and Shu Sasaki, the 21-year-old defender ran all the way from the backline to join forward Darryl Roberts on the counter.
Roberts sent the ball back and Aguinaldo didn't waste the opportunity, scoring the third goal which turned out to be the insurance for the Cebu based club against the powerhouse visitors.
"We were on the counter. I see nobody is coming up only our striker Darryl. So I thought I'll support him nalang and ayun, sinwerte naka-goal and 3-0," Aguinaldo said.
"Really pleased with the win. Everyone's really happy. We got revenge after that 4-0 loss in Johor," he added.
With a win over the best team in their group, Aguinaldo believes they are on track for the next stage of the tournament.
The confidence is now there, and considering that they have already beaten Magwe and Boeung Ket Angkor, the odds favor Global more than ever.
"A win is always a good way to start another game. Winning is the best drive a team can get to move on to the next few games."
