PHILIPPINE Air Force finally moved out of relegation zone as it edged fellow military club Army, 1-0, on Saturday night in the United Football League at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig.
Antonio Albor Jr. fired the winner in the second half in the battle between cellar-dwelling teams as the Airmen notched their second straight victory to move at ninth place with six points, now two ahead of the Troopers.
“Umakyat na kami pataas ng isang step. I'm very happy nanalo `yung mga bata," Airmen coach Edzel Bracamonte said. “Pero marami pa kami kailangan i-improve, especially `yung mga kalaban namin matataas na talaga yung level."
Riding the crest of their breakthrough win at the expense of Nomads last week, the Airmen came out aggressive against their fellow military club and were rewarded in the 74th minute when Albor slotted home a long-range looper to the surprise of the Army goalkeeper.
"Pag-control ko ng bola, `yung keeper medyo naka-abante sa goal kaya yung target ko pa-lobo," Albor said.
The Troopers, eager to bounce back from a 10-1 whipping from Loyola the last time, bungled their chances courtesy of Meliton Pelayo and Ricardo Becite.
