Historic AFC Cup campaign comes to hearbreaking end as Ceres-La Salle falls to South China in extra time in Bacolod

CERES-La Salle saw its historic Asian Football Confederation Cup campaign come to a heartbreaking end as it sustained a 1-0 loss to South China in the knockout stage on Tuesday night at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod.

The Busmen held the visitors from Hong Kong scoreless in regulation, only to surrender a goal early in the second half of extra time as they failed to protect their home-field edge.

Brazilian midfielder Luiz Carlos struck the lone goal that mattered in the 107th minute, leaving the partisan crowd stunned.

Ceres conjured early chances it failed to convert as the home side fell short of advancing to the quarterfinals after becoming the first Philippine club to advance to the Round of the 16.
