SOME of the biggest names in Asian football are expected to converge in the country next year when the Asian Football Confederation holds its Awards Night in Manila.
AFC president Sheikh Salman Ebrahim Hamad Al Khalifa made the announcement on Thursday when he arrived here for his first official visit.
Around 500 international guests, including awardees, football association presidents, and media are expected to grace the November event, which highlights the 60th anniversary of the AFC.
The AFC was founded in Manila in 1954.
“It will be great to celebrate it where it started,” Salman, the Bahraini prince, said at a press conference at the Makati Shangri-La where he was joined by Philippine Football Federation president Mariano “Nonong” Araneta Jr.
The PFF president has been designated as chairman of the organizing committee, with the PFF as the main coordinator.
The Sheik is expected to discuss with the PFF how the AFC can support local football.
“We are very proud and happy of the achievement the PFF has done here.”
