SCORCHING hot was Rial "Rial" Polog Jr. as his blazing shooting propelled E-Gilas Pilipinas to a dominant 66-34 thumping of Indonesia in the 2020 Fiba Esports Open on Saturday.
He was unstoppable as he fired 30 points built on seven treys and missed only two shots to make it 3-0 for the Philippines in the Southeast Asian conference.
Polog's sweet streak allowed the Filipinos to start off with a 19-7 first quarter before breaking the game wide open, 23-7 in the second frame.
Indonesia mounted a fightback, cutting the deficit to 11, 37-26, but E-Gilas closed out the third quarter with an 11-0 outburst to restore order and make it a 48-26 game.
The lead further bled to 30 with a left corner long two from Clark "Clark" Banzon to make it a 56-26 game with four minutes remaining.
Custer "Aguila" Galas and Philippe "Izzo" Herrero IV both added 11 points each, as Aljon "Shintarou" Cruzin did the dirty work and scored seven.
The two teams face off anew at 7:25 p.m. in the five-game Southeast Asia conference.
