TEAM Liquid Philippines booked the first slot in the MPL Philippines Season 16 Upper Bracket finals after dominating ONIC Philippines and completing a 3-0 sweep in their playoff meeting on Thursday at the Cuneta Astrodome.
The Cavalry delivered a masterclass in discipline and control in Game 1, outmaneuvering ONIC with superior map presence, gold advantage, and objective control.
Kiel "Oheb" Soriano made a decisive move in the final base turret push, exploding for a double kill score and leading the Cavalry to their first series win.
Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno on Yi Sun Shin made his presence felt with a perfect 7-0-3 KDA.
ONIC PH briefly held the small lead in the early game of Game 2, but Team Liquid PH was just too locked in, capitalizing on its Game 1 momentum which proved too difficult to overcome.
ONIC’s attempt to eliminate Sanford “Sanford” Vinuya’s Yu Zhong at the nine-minute mark backfired, as Team Liquid PH immediately counterengaged, allowing KarlTzy’s Lancelot to secure a double kill.
The Cavalry claimed the Lord without a problem and wasted no time storming ONIC’s base, wrapping up Game 2 in just 10 minutes and 53 seconds with an 11-3 kill lead.
Fearless as always, Sanford’s Yu Zhong dominated the EXP lane and secured MVP honors with a 1-1-6 KDA.
Game 3 unfolded much like the previous match, with Team Liquid PH riding its momentum to break past ONIC PH’s valiant stand.
KarlTzy, on his signature Lancelot, broke through the enemy backlines in the final moments to complete the sweep for Team Liquid PH.
The Game 3 MVP was none other than the G.O.A.T., KarlTzy, after delivering a 5-1-5 KDA performance.
Team Liquid PH now inches closer to making another Grand Finals appearance and now waits for the winner between Aurora or TNC Pro Team in the MPL Philippines Season 16 Upper Bracket finals on Friday.
As disappointing as the loss is for ONIC, all’s not done for the Sonics as they fight for their lives in the lower bracket, facing the loser of the Aurora - TNC clash, also on Friday.
