ONLY one streak will stay intact after Week 6 of the MPL Philippines Season 17 when its top two teams in Team Liquid and Team Falcons collide on Saturday’s ‘Clash of Titans’ at the Victoria Sports Tower.
Team Liquid has won nine consecutive matches to open the season, securing a playoff spot as early as Week 5. Now the Cavalry’s eyes are on keeping their momentum – with a perfect-regular season run at 14-0 setting a new record as the longest undisrupted streak in MPL PH history.
Standing in their way, however, is a Team Falcons squad that has emerged as the closest threat to Team Liquid’s reign.
Winners of their last six to sit firmly in second place with a 7-1 record, the Falcons have reemerged as a legitimate powerhouse this season. Their resurgence marks a stark contrast to their once shaky regular-season form, transforming into a more disciplined and dangerous unit capable of taking down any opponent.
They are now poised to secure a playoff berth and, more significantly, to deliver the Cavalry their first defeat in this rematch.
History between the two franchises only intensifies the rivalry, a rivalry that goes beyond the domestic league.
In the MSC 2024, Team Falcons (formerly Falcons AP.Bren) delivered a statement 3-1 semifinal victory over Team Liquid PH, then known as Liquid ECHO, to eliminate them from the tournament.
It was a moment of redemption, coming after Liquid’s sweep of Falcons in the MPL Season 13 Grand Finals.
Now the two teams meet again for the last time in the regular season of MPL Philippines Season 17 and fans can expect nothing but fireworks between these two titans.
