ONCE the Cavalry starts charging, expect nothing less than a stampede.
And a stampede was exactly what happened as Team Liquid opened its Swiss Stage campaign on the highest of notes after beating Aurora Gaming PH in a one-game affair at the M7 World Championship in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Team Liquid picked Alston “Sanji” Pabico’s signature Lou Yi, the hero that famously outplayed Aurora Gaming with a smart Diversion play in the MPL Philippines Season 16 Grand Finals.
It once again bore the same results for Team Liquid.
Both the Cavalry and the Northern Lights played carefully in the early game, keeping scores low and gold nearly even—until an 11-minute teamfight over the Lord shook things up.
Aurora gamble
Aurora’s bold gamble for the lord paid off when Cedrix “Demonkite” Caranto on Fredrinn claimed the objective, but Cavalry responded fast with Sanji’s diversion play, before they flicker trapped and eliminated Dominic “Domengkite” Del Mundo’s Karrie at the inner bottom lane turret.
Team Liquid successfully captured the 15-minute Lord objective and used the momentum to ramp up pressure on Aurora Gaming PH.
In the final moments, Team Liquid’s momentum proved unstoppable, with Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno landing a double kill on Yi Sun Shin to seal the win.
Sanji shined with his signature Lou Yi, earning MVP honors after a perfect 2-0-9 KDA performance.
The two teams will now be focusing on their next matches, but those teams are yet to be named as their opponents will be revealed in the upcoming round of the draw.
